WELCOME FROM THE WORLD OF TOMORROW

The screen flickers with the light and images of glistening towers of steel and science. A cute and catchy jingle begins playing. A young woman in black & red clothing, a sleeveless button down shirt with a short skirt and disconnected sleeves hanging from just above her elbows to her wrists, appears in the foreground. Her hair a deep and vibrant red, made into drill point curls on either side of her head. She speaks into a headset microphone. There is a tattoo of the number 04 on her upper arm

“The year is 20XX & the world is experiencing a time of advancement. With the advent of the World Science Conference, ideas are given form and power to be showcased, purchased, and developed by those with the scientific know how & backing for the betterment of all mankind…at least in theory.
The centerpiece of this year’s show is the Quantum Stability Generator. This device, whose creator wishes to remain anonymous, will supply power for the show, adjoining labs, and other local venues to the Conference. The first device of many for a new age of energy!
So please, come to the World Science Conference Expo Center in Somerset New Jersey. True ideas possess greater ultimate power than physical might.”

The commercial ends with more of the catchy music as the girl does a short dance. A shadow falls upon the flat screen.
A hand is laid upon the monitor, the image flickers. Fingers drag across the coated surface and distort the image momentarily before retreating, balling into a fist, and slamming forward. Viscous and shining fluid and pellets fell about in a sparkling rain with momentary electrical discharges.

Many will come to the Conference. Some will come to invent. Some will come with dreams. Some will come with greed in their hearts. Others will come with something much more dangerous…an idea.

    Gamingness Returns
Stopped by gamestop to drop some money on Bioshock 2 and pick up a gift for a friend.

First off, I'm shocked that it seems that Gamestop isn't doing some console bundle package with FF13...I mean, it should be easy money there, right? I was banking on such to get a ps3, but who knows, especially with the Japan trip on the tail end of the same month. May wind up waiting until April to get FF13. We'll see.

I'm not shocked we're not getting the white/pink ps3 though.

Anyway, I was also looking at a few other things. Reremake of Lunar for PSP, nice. Disgaea 2 on PSP means I should prolly get around to playing 1 soon. It looks like I'm barreling through the plot on Crisis Core so I should be able to switch gears. I need to play more of Spirit Tracks too.

*skips rant about ps1, ps2 and gamecube backlog*

ANYWAY, the true purpose of this post. Was looking at Dante's Inferno, Darksiders and Bayonetta. Are they worth getting? I know the comparisons to God of War and Legend of Zelda and Devil May Cry. But do they stand on their own is what I'm asking? Are they worth buying or should I toddle over to the blockbuster and try my luck with a rental?

    Unseen Academicals review (avoiding spoilers)
just finished Unseen Academicals. Honestly not the best written Discworld book I've read. It kinda felt like two different stories crammed into eachother. And even the deus ex machina at the end wasn't up to his usual standards. To me the book felt more like many scenes that he wanted to have done that were pasted together as best as possible. Now, at least he has a reason for this, I imagine some of the diminished quality comes from him trying to get what he can done before the alzheimers sets in and he can no longer write the way he wishes to.

That being said, I liked the new characters, particularly Nutt and Glenda. I just get the feeling that their introduction and their connection with a football game was intended to be spaced out a bit more. I do reccomend it as a read if you're a fan of Discworld, but I didn't enjoy it as much as the Death, Witches and Guards books I read last year.

    Woo
Groggy Jews waking up from a drunk party at Capitale, a club that used to be a bank (how cliche can you get?)

It was a good time, lots of fun. First time I've really drank to blacking out, but even then it was more entering the dance floor, dancing, and then being aware of being elsewhere on the dance floor. I lost 20-40 dollars somewhere along the way, but nothing else is missing so I prolly pulled a wrong bill or something while at one of the bars. Oh well (my sister busted her camera and one of her friends lost her cellphone).

Pretty damn good time. Danced with some girls probably, though I remember some looking away at other people, so I guess there were probably a few going for the novelty of dancing with the short Jew dressed like James Bond. Fuck em. I had a good time, danced with a few girls, danced at a good number more, got pretty drunk and had fun.

Don't plan to drink that much for a while, may even take it easy at the New Years party I'm going to (but probably won't)

Not sure what movies I'll make it to today, so to the people I was talking about catching movies with, I'll keep you posted when I know what's going on.

Well that was a chunk of cash
So I went out and picked up a Wii yesterday. I figured I'd find the best deals pre-Christmas, and this was my last chance before shoppers got REALLY nuts. Checked out the Bestbuy, and they had a nifty package but it would saddle me with two games I didn't really want. Wound up over at gamestop, they had a smaller bundle, but it was something. So now I have the following:

    Wii
    Extra 'mote and 'chuck
    Classic Controller
    Metroid Prime Trilogy
    Brawl
    Galaxy
    No More Heroes
    4000 wii points
4 gig SD memory card (DSi/Wii interchangable)

Plan to hook it up sometime soon, but not just yet, since I wasn't planning to get one until just after New Years anyway...that and I'm waiting for a span of days off to indulge in it.

Oh yeah, and I got level 75 Samurai in FFXI last night (max level, though I still plan to pump a bit more exp into it to buffer it, I'm accident prone)

I could quote that song but I wont
I sorted out the schedule conflict, god bless the nice coworkers of the world. Resubmitted the paperwork and pending approval I'll have that second week in Japan :D

Edit: Running into another conflict with another coworker at the tail end of the week now >< I'll have to see what I can do next week.

    That just raises further questions!
Okay, new questions on my Wii consideration. I assume it uses a harddrive like every other one these days. How good is the storage space? How much space is taken up by virtual console games? (there's a lot I'm interested in) Does the Wii come with built in wifi or will I need to get an antennae like for my xbox?

    Goin cross the seas
Got the minimal time approval I needed for a group trip to Japan in march. The shame is I'm only gonna get to spend a week there, but that was the base plan to begin with. I asked for an extra week so I could see more of the country, but that ran into conflicts with time already requested by coworkers. Ah well, I won't be able to spend my birthday in Japan, but I'll still be able to have an awesome time with friends.

    We're comin for ya, Papa!

    Pondering nerdiness options
I've got this question tossing around on Facebook, but I thought I'd toss it out here too to get full thoughts.

Thinking about getting a Wii after the holidays, but is it really worth it? I know it's kinda been lacking on big "must have titles" (I got twilight princess for the gamecube), but I have been wanting to play all the mario stuff that's been out, metroid prime 3 too. My main lament is that the biggest draw is the stuff on virtual console (Toejam and Earl, Mario 64 and Final Fantasy 4 - The After, being the top three)

Already have an xbox, enjoying it. I'll probably getting a ps3 in March with whatever package that Final Fantasy 13 is released with (doubt it'll come with the 250 Gig pink PS3 like Japan got tho http://scrawlfx.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/ff13-ps3-bundle-announce-lightning.jpg )

So, Wii, fun to be sure, but is it worth it? Be honest.

    Should prolly go friends only
Been thinking of setting this LJ to friends only lately. Would be better for security, just not sure of the procedure. Should I go back, set all my posts to friends only, post one public one declaring the status and then lock it down? Is that how it's done?

    More on Chi
Found the episode with the shoe scene. The whole episode is only 3 minutes in length, enjoy.

    Zomg! *splodes from cute*
All over the internet, and occasionally on here, I've seen icons of an anime kitten, often fighting a shoe. Splodeworthy on its own. However, while poking around tvtropes.org today, I stumbled across a summary of the source material:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chi%27s_Sweet_Home

It's about a kitten who loses her mom and family one day, and ends up being adopted by a loving family. Of course, no pets are allowed in their apartment, so they must keep their new family member safe.

I also found the manga at http://www.onemanga.com/Chiis_Sweet_Home/ and it brought back many old memories of my own cat while I was flipping through it. I hope you all enjoy it as well.

    Nekocon 2009
Well, back home from the con. Report as follows, pics to come in a later date in a later post.

    Con time! )

That's about it. It was a fun time, I hope I didn't bother anyone with my brief grumping around on Saturday night. I'm not blaming anyone, it happens, and the con was fun overall.

    Coundown to Nekocon
Wound up working yesterday evening so tonight I need to get it together and pack for Nekocon. Just wondering, does anyone have like, I dunno, a list for con packing I can use just to run my mind against? I should make something like that for all trips.

Anyway, should be a fun weekend. Been saving up a bunch of money for it, not only for the con but for a costume I commissioned. I haven't really brought a camera to cons lately, but there should be pictures of me up after the con at least. (long story as to why I don't have a camera, short version is my sister commandeered it).

Looking forward to the larp and nervous about it too. Only a handful of people will be familiar with my character, so it's up to me to represent him. The popularity of Ai Kora is in my hands! I just gotta keep telling myself that nothing can be planned for in larp, and as long as I can roll with it and have fun, it'll be good times.

    Nekocon Costume Poll
So, I have my plans for Saturday at Nekocon (mwahaha), and for Thursday and Sunday I'll probably wear clever tshirts.

What should I wear on Friday?

    A) Friend Democratic Party shirt

    2) Professor Tomoe (oh he woulda been interesting to larp this year, but nah, I've had my glory with him)
